MTGeo Minerals Analysis Consulting Pty Ltd (MTGeo) was founded in 2019, to continue growing the mineral expertise and professional integrity build over more than 30 years of analytics and research experience. We offer specialized mineralogical solutions and scientific consulting to industry, small and medium enterprises, individuals, research, and academic institutions. Through scientific excellence and good professional practice MTGeo strives to deliver high standard accurate and fast analytical results, mineral identification and characterization, and analytical and scientific consultation to the geological, exploration, mining and environmental sectors, metallurgical and processing entities, ceramics and agricultural industries, engineering, and materials science. We offer a range of services for mineralogical and geochemical characterization using high quality analytical data. Analytical methods include but are not limited to X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy with EDS-Microanalysis (SEM/EDS). We can assist with a broader range of specialized characterization techniques, such as Optical Microscopy, Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy, TGA/DTA, ICP-AES, ICP-MS, AAS, etc.

Maria T. Atanasova, PhD, Pr. Sci. Nat. Is a qualified geologist, specializing in mineralogy and geochemistry with decades of experience in mining and exploration, analytics and research in the fields of mineralogy, crystallography, and materials sciences. As Head of the Mineralogy Division at the Council for Geoscience (CGS, previously Geological Survey of South Africa) in Pretoria, she developed, maintained, and managed an analytical facility for applied mineralogical research and material characterization. She completed her PhD with the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in the field of applied materials and bionanocomposites. She is currently collaborating in number of multidisciplinary research projects with postgraduate students from various universities within South Africa. Research interests focus on the relationship crystal structures-material properties and have resulted in several peer-reviewed publications in international journals dedicated to mineralogy, crystallography, and material science. She has authored a book titled “Microminerals of the Bushveld Complex, South Africa” published by the CGS in 2016, (Atanasova, M.T., Cairncross, B., Windisch, W.R. 2016. Microminerals of the Bushveld Complex, South Africa. Council for Geoscience, 437 pp.).

She is a member of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA), Mineralogical Association of South Africa (MINSA), Microscopy Society of South Africa (MSSA), South African Micromount Society (SAMS) and South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP). Since 2020 she represent South Africa as a voting member in the Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA).

Maria is passionate about environmental sustainability and protection. Strongly believe that environmental conservation enables nature to restore and keep our planet healthy.
